Walking to the station can fit movement into a journey you already need to make. The catch is that a train departure is much less flexible than a stroll around the block.
Test the route on a day when missing a connection would not cause trouble. Time the complete journey to the platform, including crossings, ticket gates and any lift you use. Check the return arrangements too; a well-lit morning route may feel quite different after dark.
Build in a margin that lets you walk comfortably. If the plan only works when every traffic signal is favorable, it needs revising. Use the closer entrance or a shorter approach when carrying luggage, and keep a backup transport option for poor conditions.
The walk need not start at your own front door. Getting off a bus one suitable stop earlier may make more sense than covering the entire distance on foot. What matters is a route that fits the actual journey and remains manageable on an ordinary, slightly untidy weekday.
